View of the town of Wismar in North Germany

Dear Wandering Spirit,

If you are travelling around north-east Germany, you should definitely pay a visit to Wismar!

This lovely town on the Baltic coast hosts remarkable buildings in its old city centre.

The main square is one of the biggest in all Germany and, on it, you can admire the ‘Wasserkunst‘ fountain built in 1579. Next to the Renaissance style town hall, the Mayou’s House ‘Alter Schwede‘ impresses with its typical Brick Gothic style.

Last but not least, the first ever spooky movie was filmed in Wismar: ‘Nosferatu’ by Murnau in 1921 (in the movie, the city was renamed to Wisborg though). Creepy!
