Dear Wandering Spirit,

When arriving in Rotterdam, you soon understand that this city possesses a contemporary spirit.

The stunning skyline and giant bridges make Rotterdam a unique yet extremely welcoming Dutch city. Therefore, you should experience Rotterdam.

Rotterdam Skyline

The bizarre buildings and skyscrapers are all engineering and artistic masterpieces of the last decades. 🌆

The Erasmus Bridge, the Willemsbrug and the Kop van Zuid district on the Meuse river create one of the most distinctive skylines in all Europe, but they are not the only hotspots.

The most incredible part is that they will be likely overcome by new, even taller skyscrapers in the next few years.

Experiencing Rotterdam

Other stunning buildings in Rotterdam include the Markthal, the Kubuswoningen, and Central Station. There are also a few other whimsical spots around the city centre you should not miss when you explore Rotterdam.

The Markthal is covered by a glass arch that accommodates both offices and apartments, beneath it is an innovative market hall hosting cuisines from all over the world. 🍳

Yes, you are visiting the home of over 180 nationalities!

Since I had already visited Rotterdam before, I made sure to tick one thing off my travel checklist this time: I stayed at the Kubuswoningen overnight.

These unconventional cubic houses were built by the architect Piet Blom in the 1970s , and they are probably my highlight from Rotterdam.

Feel free to wander around the geometric buildings and do not miss a visit to the museum, but please be respectful of the locals.

A Place for Modern Architecture

On the opposite side of the city centre, you will discover the antique Delfshaven district. Here, you can take a stroll or sip a refreshing beer at the many pubs.

I recommend the famous De Pelgrim brewery.  This part of the city was spared by the bombs during World War II. You will admire a truly authentic Rotterdam district.

There is so much to see in Rotterdam for people who love art and architecture. This place offers a variety of free-time activities, and is framed by the largest European port. 🚢

Rotterdam is a windy city, especially on the riverside, but might turn hot and sticky in summer. Also, you might want to rent a bike to explore the beautiful surroundings.

Will you give Rotterdam the chance to amaze you, just like it did me?
